Today 27th of February is the International Polar Bear Day.
This species belong to the family of the bears, and are the biggest carnivorous specimens that exists on Earth. Currently it has a population of 20.000 to 25.000 individuals distributed in 19 populations in the Artic. However, even though this is a big and strong animal, they are treathened and included in the Rest List of the International Union for the Conservation of the Nature (UICN) as threatened species, in the category of vulnerable.
For this reason, this day is celebrated to teach and rise awareness about the importance of this species and its difficult situation which is due both to climate change and poaching.
